Why Wheat Germ Carries the Research

The gap between those columns is the part worth sitting with. The two doses with real trial data behind them are around 1 mg, the dose that clearly failed to move blood levels was 40 mg, and products on the shelf are sold across that whole range. No trial has established a dose that raises tissue spermidine in healthy adults, so no product can be dosed against that target yet.

What Not to Take with Spermidine

No published human study has tested spermidine against another drug for an interaction. That absence is the real answer to the question, and it is different from a clean bill of health: nobody has looked. Interaction lists you find on product pages are reasoning from mechanism. None of them report a trial result.

Two mechanism-based cautions are worth raising with a clinician. Polyamines sit in cell growth and division pathways, which is why the bleeding-disorder and blood-thinner caution above exists. And spermidine works by inducing autophagy, so anyone on a drug that deliberately suppresses cell turnover, including immunosuppressants after a transplant, is pushing two treatments in opposite directions.

Reported side effects in the trials were mild and did not separate from placebo. In the 30-person safety trial, blood pressure, weight, blood chemistry and hematology showed no differences between the spermidine and placebo groups. Two serious adverse events occurred, one in each group, and neither was judged related to the supplement. Stomach upset is the complaint people report most often outside the trials, and taking the extract with a meal is the standard first thing to try.

Spermidine is not a senolytic, despite showing up on lists with compounds that are. Senolytics such as fisetin and dasatinib work by killing senescent cells outright.
