Privacy Policy

What we collect when you use The Metabolic Journal, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

Last updated: October 1, 2026

This policy covers themetabolicjournal.com (the "Site"), operated by The Metabolic Journal ("we", "us"). By using the Site you agree to the practices described here. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.

Information you give us

  • Email sign-ups. When you subscribe to our newsletter or request a guide, we collect your email address and, if you provide it, your name.
  • Assessments, calculators and surveys. Answers you enter into our assessment, quizzes, calculators or appointment survey (for example symptoms, goals, lab values or age). Calculator inputs are processed to show you a result; if you submit an assessment or survey with your email, we store your answers with it.
  • Doctor and appointment requests. Contact details and the information you choose to share about what you're looking for.
  • Contact and advertising inquiries. Your name, email and message.

Please don't send us information you don't want stored. We are an educational publisher, not a healthcare provider, and information you submit to us is not covered by HIPAA.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we and our partners automatically collect technical data when you visit: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring URL, approximate location derived from IP, and the searches you run in our site search. This is collected through server logs, cookies, pixels and similar technologies.

How we use information

  • To run, maintain and improve the Site and our content (including learning which topics readers search for and can't find).
  • To send the emails you asked for, such as newsletters, guides and reminders tied to a request you made. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link.
  • To respond to your messages and requests.
  • To show advertising and measure its performance.
  • To prevent fraud and abuse, and to comply with the law.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the Site is used. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects usage data under Google's own privacy policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some features may stop working if you do.

Advertising

The Site uses Mediavine to manage third-party advertising. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Site, and it may use first- and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file sent to your device by the web server so the website can remember information about your browsing activity.

First-party cookies are created by the site you are visiting; only that site can read them. Third-party cookies are set by other domains, such as an ad network, and may be read across multiple sites. Mediavine and its partners may use these cookies, along with web beacons, pixels and similar technologies, to collect information about your visits to this and other websites — such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed and time spent — in order to serve ads tailored to your interests, measure ad performance and prevent fraud.

For more information about Mediavine's data practices, see Mediavine's list of advertising partners. You can opt out of interest-based advertising from many networks at aboutads.info and networkadvertising.org, or through your device's ad settings. You'll still see ads after opting out; they just won't be personalized.

Affiliate and partner links

Some links on the Site go to partners, including telehealth and lab-testing services, and we may earn a commission if you buy something. We track clicks on these links to measure referrals. Once you leave our Site, the partner's own privacy policy governs what they collect.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your name or email address. We share information only with:

  • Service providers that host the Site, store data, send email and provide analytics, under contracts that limit their use of it.
  • Advertising partners, as described above, through cookies and similar technologies.
  • Partners you ask us to connect you with, such as when you request a doctor or appointment.
  • Authorities, when required by law or to protect our rights and users' safety.
  • A successor, if the Site is sold or merged.

Under some U.S. state laws, sharing data with ad partners through cookies can count as a "sale" or "sharing" for targeted advertising. You can opt out as described in the next section.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (including California and other U.S. states, the EU/EEA and the UK), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information; to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to withdraw consent. We won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

To make a request, use our contact form and tell us what you'd like us to do. We may need to verify your identity before acting on it. We honor Global Privacy Control signals where required by law. Where EU/UK law applies, we process data on the basis of consent, our legitimate interest in running and funding the Site, or to fulfill a request you made; you may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

Data retention and security

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires, then delete or anonymize it. We use reasonable safeguards, but no website or transmission is completely secure.

Children

The Site is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

International visitors

The Site is operated from the United States, and information we collect is processed and stored in the U.S.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed.
