Why I recommend vitamins supplements.
If you read my blog about minerals, much of what I have to say today will be familiar.
First, every cell of the body needs proteins, fats and carbohydrates. And every cell needs vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and other substances that we cannot produce ourselves. To repeat, every cell needs all of these things.
But some cells need more of something, for example red cells need more iron, bones need more calcium and phosphorus, brain cells need more omega-3-fatty acids and thyroid needs more iodine.
When we talked about minerals, I explained the difference between organic and inorganic ones. There is a similar distinction between vitamins – real and synthetic.
Most vitamins supplements are synthetic. They are made in a laboratory. And it does not matter how they advertise it, if they say that it is the purest or the most potent or the greatest. It is still synthetic.
People cannot make real vitamins. Real vitamins can only come from real food. Not from brightly colored cereal, not from partially hydrogenated vegetable oils, but from meat, fish, eggs, fruits, vegetables, etc.
Actually, there is a way to put real vitamins into a tablet or a capsule, and I’ll tell you about it in a moment. But first let’s talk about the difference between real and synthetic vitamins.
Most real vitamins are not single substances, but complexes with multiple components. For example, vitamin E contains 4 tocopherols and 4 tocotrienols. Eight ingredients as far as we know, possibly more. Before synthetic vitamins appeared, if you wanted vitamin E you used wheat germ oil (vitamin E is fatty, so it is found in oily foods).
But if you go to a health food store to buy vitamin E, you will get d-alpha-tocopherol. Somehow, long time ago, they started equating vitamin E with d-alpha-tocopherols and forgot all about other tocopherols and tocotrienols.
D-alpha-tocopherol is a part of vitamin E. But it is not vitamin E, only a part. I am not saying that it is harmful to take it, but if you do you are not really getting vitamin E.
And another thing. The way I spelled it so far, d-alpha-tocopherol, is the natural part of vitamin E. Most vitamin E supplements are called dl-alpha-tocopherol, with an “L” after a “d” which indicates that this is synthetic. Another spelling you can see is d-alpha-tocopheryl, with a “y” instead of an “o” before the final “l”. This also means synthetic. These so-called vitamin E supplements are not real, not complete and are fake.
This is true about all the other vitamins. They make a substance in a laboratory which is similar to a real component of a vitamin, and they call it a vitamin.
The point is you can only get real vitamins from food. And you can use real food to make vitamin supplements. How?
You start by drying the food. If you dry a grape, it becomes a raisin. A raisin has all the same nutrients as the grape, just no water. If you allow the raisin to keep drying, it will eventually turn into a powder which will contain all the same nutrients. From this powder you can make a pill or a capsule, or you can combine it with other food powders to make a more complex product.
You can do it with any food, such as liver, carrots, heart, broccoli, just anything. The important thing is to use the drying technique that does not include heat because it can destroy some vitamins. Then you can use one or many powders to create supplements that contain real food and are designed to address various health issues.
There is a company that used this method for almost 100 years. They are called Standard Process. They have a number of supplements for various conditions. The one I recommend for everybody is called Catalyn. It’s a natural multivitamin made from real food. The list of ingredients does not read like some kind of a chemical concoction that you can’t even pronounce, but as a list of regular foods, of animal and plant origin.
Here is the list
Defatted wheat germ, calcium lactate, organic carrot, organic sweet potato, nutritional yeast, bovine adrenal, bovine liver, magnesium citrate, bovine spleen, ovine spleen, bovine kidney, organic pea vine juice powder, organic alfalfa powder, organic oat flour, sunflower lecithin, organic shiitake mushroom powder, organic reishi mushroom powder, and rice bran.
This combination of nutrients has all the real vitamins, currently known and those yet unknown.
I think everybody should take Catalyn, unless you are allergic to one of the ingredients.
